On April 4, 2011, Radio Nikkei began broadcasting "Minyo de Kyo Haibunabira", a legendary long-running
Okinawan folk music program produced by Ryukyu Broadcasting Corporation (RBCi Radio).
This marked a major milestone for radio fans, as it brought local Okinawan culture to a nationwide
audience across Japan via Radio Nikkei's shortwave signal.
Because shortwave signals cover the entire country and Radiko had just begun expanding its domestic reach,
this partnership allowed Okinawans living on the mainland to tune in to their hometown culture daily.
